Why imperfection made La Vie en Rose feel more romantic.

We bought roses that florists usually throw away: open too far, petals bruised at the edges, stems that bend the wrong way.
“Perfect flowers look like a photograph of flowers. We wanted the real thing.”

Arrangements were built to fall apart slowly over the evening. By midnight, petals were on the floor, on the menus, in the champagne. That was the plan.
